| Melanie Collum
"In a language far from neutral, Melanie's pottery dares our cultural imagination. The sensuous designs present images of women, animals and landscapes combined with symbols of sacred spirituality."
Each piece is meticulously handcrafted using a high-fired porcelain clay body. The images are applied using up to 10 different colours of glaze. This pottery is fully functional, and is safe to use in the microwave, oven and dishwasher.
Garden Sanctuary
Plants and winged creatures and the symbol for ecology are represented here. May we find joy and refuge in gardens.
The Turtle
With respect to the Native American creation story, this continent is called Turtle Island. The turtle symbol is about shielding and protecting oneself and mother earth. The turtle teaches about being grounded and moving slowly yet being sensitive to vibration and smell.
The Inukshuk (Ee-nook-sook): A stone marker that acts in place of a human being.
Traditionally, Inukshuk's were built by the Inuit people to act in the place of messengers. The meaning of a specific Inukshuk depends on the intent of the person who builds it. In the past, they have bee built to tell about a good hunting or fishing spot, or as a navigation tool to indicate a safe trail. Perhaps they appeal to us now as a simple symbol of our interest in communication and our constant search for guidance and direction.
